Cutting a Cigar in Haste Makes for Waste
Take a couple minutes and read how properly cutting a cigar will enhance your smoking experience and save you from throwing out you're favorite cigar. This is short and sweet, but important. If you're interested in what types of tools are available, check our
cigar cutter
page. Meanwhile, back on the farm.... the head of the cigar (the end you place in your mouth) has a cap on it. This consists of a small spare piece of wrapper that was left over from after constructing the cigar. This is fashioned into the shape of a circle and glued onto the head with an all natural sticky substance. This cap needs to be removed, but not entirely. When cutting a cigar, always leave part of the cap on. I find leaving an eighth of the cap on is sufficient. You can leave more on if you like, it all depends on the size opening you prefer. This rule applies whether you are using a guillotine cigar cutter, cigar scissor, or cigar v cutter. Leaving a piece of the cap on keeps the cigar wrapper from unraveling. There is nothing quite as frustrating as settling in for a good smoke and having the wrapper come apart between your lips. Whether you're smoking a bargain cigar or a premium cigar, do yourself a favor and leave a bit of the cap on.
If you're planning on using a cigar punch, check out the
cigar cutter
section for some tips. No matter what kind of cigar cutter you use, remember to always make sure it's sharp. There you go.... cigar cutting is a piece of cake!
