Choosing a Cigar Tube to Properly Store Your Cigars
Choosing a cigar tube is a relatively simple matter. You just need to make sure you know what you want and need before purchasing. The most common cigar tubes are made from stainless steel and are available in silver and gold colors. These can usually hold anywhere from one to five cigars. As with cigar travel cases, if a tube holds one cigar it can be called a 1-finger tube, if it holds three cigars, a 3-finger tube.... you get the point. These are easy to identify because of the tubular configurations. In other words, it's obvious that the cigar holder in the picture at the top of the page holds two cigars because you can plainly see the two tubes. Each cigar has it's own resting place so that it will not get tossed around or mix with your other smokes. I prefer the 3-finger tube. This allows me to carry enough cigars to last for the duration of my little excursion, or at least gives me additional ones to share if I bump into acquaintances who share my affection for a fine cigar. Also make sure you choose a tube that will accommodate a large enough cigar ring size. I prefer a 50 gauge tube. This allows me to hold many a fine cigar in the churchill cigar range if need be. Seeing as one of my favorite new treats happens to be Tres Capas Felipe Gregorio cigars, which come in both a corona size and a churchill cigar ring size of 50, this is a good thing. Cigars with a smaller ring gauge fare well also. If you're just going out for a few hours or the day, a simple tube should suffice. Just remember to place your unused cigars back in your humidor as soon as you walk through that door.
If you're planning on being out for longer periods, you can purchase a tube that has a built in humidifier and a hygrometer. Most important would be the humidifier. Heck, you can even get a tube and flask combo to put your favorite nip in! Last but not least, don't forget about the plain old plastic tubes you sometimes get when you purchase a cigar. You can re-use these to put you cigars in. If you are purchasing from an online cigar shop, just look for the boxes that say en tubo. Now you'll have cigar tubes for your travels. Please note.... Some of these come in glass. If that's the case, you can still use them, but be carefull. These can and will break if dropped or stored improperly. Unless your looking for luxury, a cigar tube will not break the bank. You can get fine quality at a reasonable price. Take the money you save and get that special cigar you've been dying to try!
