Most Asked Questions About
Choosing Cigars

Take a moment to go over our FAQ section on choosing cigars, which have been submitted by our readers.

I'm new to cigars and would like some advice on what cigars to smoke.

You should start with mild cigars. Many a cigar novice have been disappointed because their first cigar was a strong one. Experiment with mild ones first and let your tastes naturally evolve as you become more knowledgeable. Remember, mild does not mean lacking flavor.

I have a friend who smokes cuban cigars he gets from someone here in the states. I know they are illegal, so how is he able to get them?

First of all, over 80 percent of all cigars marketed as Cuban cigars in the U.S. are counterfeit. Secondly, there will always be a market selling things to people that have been deemed illegal. Thirdly, cigars available from countries such as Ecuador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Dominican Republic and others rival even an authentic Cuban cigar. Wanting what you can't have is part of human nature, and that goes for Cuban cigars also... regardless of whether they're better or not.

Are Connecticut wrappers exclusively grown in Connecticut?

Not anymore. Connecticut wrappers are being successfully grown in other areas of the world, although the wrapper from Connecticut is still considered some of the finest.

I have been buying my cigars from my local cigar shop, but the prices have kept me from trying some of the more expensive ones. What do you think about the internet stores?

Your local cigar shop is a fine place to shop, but there are some very good prices on the internet. Make sure they are reputable, stand behind their product, give great service, and do not rip you off with high shipping charges.

I'm a beginner cigar smoker who gets confused because of all the different cigars that are available. Could you suggest one that would be suitable for me and not too expensive?

There are many, but a fine smoke at a reasonable price would be the 5 Vegas Gold cigar. It's easy on the pocketbook and provides a mild to medium smoke with wonderful depth of taste.
