The Brazilian Cigar Industry
and it's History

Looking for a puro Brazilian cigar? If so, you would be in the minority.

With the least amount of exports out of any of the major players in the cigar industry, Brazil does indeed have puro cigars.

Growing tobacco is nothing new to this lush South American country. Many well known brands have been using filler and wrappers from Brazil for years (they just don't advertise it).

The Mata Fina is the most famous of the varieties produced in Brazil and is grown in Reconcavo.

A puro cigar from Brazil has yet to catch on in the United States. The bold spicy taste may be too overpowering for the palates of the U.S. cigar smoker.

Many fine premium cigars from well know lines use Brazilian filler to compliment their blends and add some spice and sweetness.

Brazilian wrappers have also come into their own and are used on many a premium handmade cigar.

If you'd like to try a Brazilian puro cigar, try Don Flor. This cigar is produced by the Menendez Amerino Company in Brazil.

All things being relative, the Brazil cigar industry is relatively young. Let's keep our eyes and palates tuned to this channel.

I think I'll check my humidor for a cigar with a Brazilian wrapper or some filler.

Time for a smoke!
